A Telegram bot for business: what it can do and how to order one

Customers in Tajikistan already message you on Telegram. A bot can take requests, book appointments and answer common questions around the clock. Here is when it is really worth it.

Telegram is one of the main messengers in Tajikistan. Customers already write to companies there, and a manager often answers the same questions by hand. A bot takes over the routine.

What a bot can do

  • Take requests — the customer answers a few questions and the request goes to a manager or the CRM.
  • Book appointments — choosing a date and time, with a reminder the day before.
  • Take orders — a catalog with photos, a cart, a delivery address.
  • Answer common questions — opening hours, addresses, delivery terms.
  • Send broadcasts — news and offers to subscribers.
  • Notify staff — about new orders, payments and tasks.

When you really need a bot

A bot pays off if:

  1. you get many similar messages;
  2. customers write in the evening and at weekends, when managers are away;
  3. requests get lost in chats and are hard to count;
  4. you need time-slot bookings — a salon, clinic, car service or training centre.

If messages are few and each one is unique, a bot will not replace a live manager — start with quick-reply templates.

How to prepare a brief

Describe for the developer:

  • scenarios — what the customer does step by step (a diagram helps);
  • where the data goes — a managers' Telegram chat, a Google Sheet, a CRM;
  • languages — Russian, Tajik, English;
  • who will change texts and prices after launch;
  • whether payment inside the bot is needed.

More in the article “How to write a technical brief”.

What to ask the developer

  • Where will the bot run and who pays for the server?
  • Will your company have access to the code and the bot account?
  • What will the bot do if a customer writes something unexpected?
  • Who fixes bugs after launch, and how fast?

How to check the result

Go through every scenario yourself, ask 3–5 friends to do the same, and check that requests arrive and that the bot answers in Tajik and Russian without mistakes.
