Landing page or business card website: what to choose for your business
A landing page, a business card site or a corporate website? We explain the difference in simple words and help you choose the format for your task, not for a studio's offer.
When a company orders a website for the first time, studios often offer different options — and it is not clear which of them you really need. Let's sort it out.
What a landing page is
A landing page is one long page that leads the visitor to a single action: submit a request, call, sign up.
The structure is usually: a headline with the offer → benefits → how it works → prices → reviews → questions and answers → a request form.
When it fits:
- one service or one product;
- launching ads — you need a page to send the traffic to;
- a promotion, an event, enrolment in a course;
- you need to test demand quickly.
What a business card website is
A business card website has several pages (usually 3–7): about the company, services, portfolio, contacts. Its job is to show that the company exists and can be trusted.
When it fits:
- several service lines;
- customers come through referrals and want to "check" the company;
- you need a presence in Google for searches by the company name.
Corporate website
A large website with news, job openings, several languages, customer accounts and integrations. Needed by medium and large companies.
Comparison
| Landing page | Business card site | Corporate website | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pages | 1 | 3–7 | 10+ |
| Main goal | Requests | Trust and contacts | Information, services |
| Development time | 1–4 weeks | 2–5 weeks | 1–3 months |
| Suitable for ads | Excellent | Good | Depends on the pages |
| SEO for different services | Weak | Average | Good |
How to choose
Ask yourself three questions:
- How many different services do I have? One — a landing page. Several — a business card site or a landing page for each service.
- Where will customers come from? From ads — a landing page. From referrals and searches by name — a business card site.
- What will happen in a year? If you plan to grow, choose a solution that can be expanded rather than rebuilt.
A frequently successful setup for a small business: a business card website plus separate landing pages for ad campaigns.
How not to overpay
- Don't order a corporate website if you need a flow of requests for one service.
- Ask the studio to show examples of similar projects and to name the timeline and cost of each milestone.
- Check whether you will be able to change texts and prices yourself after launch.
- Make sure the website, domain and hosting are registered to your company.
